Typical Caloric Density

Typical Caloric Density Information

The table below lists typical caloric density values for commonly used diet ingredients. In most cases, these values were calculated by applying the Atwater Values (4 kcal/gm for protein and carbohydrates, and 9 kcal/gm for fat) to data (on a “dry basis”) determined by Proximate Analysis (moisture, protein, fat, fiber, ash, and carbohydrate by difference). Mineral and Vitamin Mixture (s) caloric densities are based on the kcal/gm value of the carbohydrate “carrier”. *1 kcal/gm=4.187 J/gm and are digestible energy.
